Homemade Dog Food Recipes

Feeding the right food to your dog can be a major concern for dog owners. With all the products on the market today, it is difficult to know which one to choose. Many commercial dog food products pose a health risk to dogs. Although there are superior products on the market, these may come at a cost we cannot afford. Just because you want to feed your dog healthy food does not mean you are prepared to spend a chunk of your salary on it every month. So what can you do to ensure your dog's health without breaking the bank?

The alternative to buying a well-balanced dog food product is to make your own at home. Here are a few things to remember if this is the route you decide to take:

1. Nutrition

Ensure that the food you make contains the nutrients your dog requires in order to keep healthy. Proteins and vitamins are essential in protecting your dog against diseases. To ensure that you are preparing the correct combinations, consult your vet or books.

2. Variation

Just like you, dogs prefer a varied diet. Try to think of at least three different meals that you can alternate on a regular basis.

3. Ingredients

Although meat is preferred by most dogs, vegetables should be added to provide a balanced meal. Providing food with a combination of meat, carbs and vegetables is very important. Never add any salt to your dog's food as this could be potentially harmful to him.

4. Temperature

All food should be served at room temperature. Never serve food straight from the fridge or stove.

Owners can make their own food in order to ensure their dog's health. Always ensure that the meals you have prepared contain the essential nutrients your dog requires. Meals can be made in batches and frozen, then defrosted when required.
